Leah Button's Projects
Architecture projects at the University of Utah from Fall 2019 to Spring 2022
Water Education Center
Sheltered by a riparian corridor and cascading slope, this water education center is designed to mimic the towering trees on-site in order to allow wildlife crossing and vegetation growth beneath and around the structure. Through its proximity to the creek and its shifting viewpoints, visitors are invited to hear, see, and connect to various parts of the land more intimately, while at the same time learning about the virtues and merits of water conservation.
Bodega 2.0
Using programmatic and historical research methods, design a bodega 2.0 that reconnects community members with natural processes by making the division and sorting of waste hyper-visible. The intended impact is to encourage community members to be more mindful of their consumerism in order to live closer to a zero-waste lifestyle and preserve our natural ecosystems.
Material Explorations
In this project, the goal was to gain experience in working with a variety of different materials. By combining different types of materials with various volumes, weights, and colors, I was able to explore how to adjust, accommodate, and better my design to the constraints of my materials.
